Number of baby elephants soar at San Diego Zoo

The San Diego Zoo has doubled the number of their baby elephants in the wild herd. Outside of Africa, the San Diego Zoo has the most successful African-elephant breeding program in the world.

Reportedly, elephants are not very easy to breed when in captivity because the females develop an unusual estrogen cycle. The zoo is celebrating the birth of three new calves by having a festival complete with storytellers, acrobats and live drum bands. The zoo is proud of what they have accomplished with the elephant breeding program and hope to continue its success.
