Athletic events help San Diego economy and tourism

In a study done by the National University System Institute for Policy Research senior policy analyst Vince Vasquez, endurance events in San Diego, such as marathons and triathlons, generated a significant economic impact and created around 583 employment opportunities in 2013, KPBW reported on August 11.

Vasquez said the athletic and health lifestyle fits with San Diego culture, and such events gain large amounts of support each year. He noted that each person or family who comes in from out of town spends money in San Diego, at restaurants, tourist sites, hotels, and more.

San Diego’s mild and attractive weather makes it possible for the city to host marathons all-year round, and over a hundred thousand people come to these events each year.

The townhouses and condominiums at South Mission Beach are the perfect way to experience the beauty and culture of San Diego. Whether a place to stay when you’re participating in a marathon, or just to sight-see and relax with your family, our luxury rental homes never fail to disappoint. Gray whale makes a visit to Mission Bay

“I saw the tail, saw when it arched up and you could see all the little ripples on its back,” Abel Garcia said. “It was fascinating.”

Around 10 a.m. yesterday August 13, Mission Bay residents and visitors alike  got to catch a glimpse of a rare spectacle: a baby gray whale.

Apparently, the gray whale went off course during its migration to Alaska and ended up in the San Diego area. At around eight to ten feet long, the juvenile whale came close to the shore and sailboats anchored in the bay until lifeguards guided it back to the ocean. The whale was last spotted in the ocean off of South Mission Beach. What a sight!

With so much to do and so much to see in the San Diego area, why not stay a few nights at one of our gorgeous beachside townhouses? We’ve got beautiful beaches, laid-back night life, and attractions for the family. Maybe something awesome like a gray whale spotting will even happen while you’re here, you never know!
