Sea ‘N Air Parade returns to San Diego Fleet Week

About half a dozen United States Navy warships will be making their parade around San Diego Bay on September 10 to celebrate this year’s San Diego Fleet Week in San Diego, California, marking a return of the Sea ‘N Air Parade to the festivities.

The annual parade was postponed in 2001 due to the terrorism threat that the 9/11 bombings brought. It was started again in 2002 and ran until 2008, after which it was cancelled due to demand for Navy warships around the world and a tighter military budget. In addition to the Sea ‘N Air Parade, the Miramar Air Show is one of the main events in the San Diego Fleet Week. Brian Sack, the Fleet Week San Diego foundation executive director, said many ships that were home-based in San Diego traveled to other parts of the country for demonstrations.
