Presidential debate viewing parties in San Diego

Various presidential debate viewing parties were held in San Diego last Monday, September 26. Supporters of either former Senator, former First Lady, and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, or businessman Donald Trump were able to watch their respective favorites answer questions about the election.

The San Diego County Democratic Party held a presidential debate viewing party at its campaign office at 8334 Clairemont Mesa Boulevard while the Log Cabin Republicans held theirs at Uptown Tavern, near Hillcrest at 1236 University Avenue. Meanwhile, the unaffiliated San Diego City College Political Science and Associated Students Government held a presidential debate viewing and discussion at San Diego City College on the corner of 16th and C Streets.

The San Salvador and other boats were open for tours at the museum, located at 1492 N. Harbor Drive, with tickets priced at $7 for adults, and $5 for children (aged three to 12), senior citizens (aged 62 years and older), and military personnel on Saturday, September 3, to Monday, September 5.

Stadium ballot focuses on future shows and events, tourism, and other attractions

The City of San Diego is looking for approval to erect a downtown stadium and convention center, a project they expect will create thousands of employment opportunities. Reactions to the potential “world-class event center” span from the objection that it will negatively impact San Diego’s tourism industry to the excitement that it could hold the Super Bowl. Ballot measure arguments were released on Friday, August 26.

This plan is to build the facility near Petco Park, and the item will go before voters as Measure C. The pros of the measure were written by San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce President Jerry Sanders and Representative Juan Vargas. They argue:

  • The project is a multi-use facility that can be used as an expanded convention center, a stadium for the Chargers, and a world-class events center.
  • It is a potential site for the Super Bowl, which they dub “America’s national holiday.”
  • San Diegans who do not occupy a hotel room in the city do not have to pay for the development of the facility.
  • 17,000 jobs will be generated during the construction of the center.
