New Sea World Attractions Coming to San Diego

As a part of a $175 million dollar capital investment, Sea World in San Diego will soon be housing two new attractions that will immerse guests into the life and habitat of underwater species. The highly-anticipated attractions come at a time when Sea World is attempting to move away from theatrical shows and align themselves towards natural orca whale encounters, meant to educate the public and garner appreciation for the species.

The attractions include Ocean Explorer, a three-acre expanse that will boast multiple aquariums, amusement rides, and digital technology. The main feature of Ocean Explorer will be Submarine Quest, an attraction that will allow guests to board mini-submarines and view rare underwater animals, such as the spider crab and giant octopus. The ride will have underwater research bases and interactive activities for guests’ enjoyment.

The other primary attraction will be the Orca Encounter—an experience that will focus on the life of killer orca whales in their natural habitat, including how they hunt and navigate, what they eat, and the methods they employ to communicate. The two multi-million dollar attractions are expected to reinvent Sea World’s traditional business model.

Obama’s agenda includes down time in San Diego

United States President Barrack Obama visited San Diego, California on October 10 and 11 to indulge in a few of the relaxing activities that most visitors enjoy in the area: playing golf and engaging in some quality rest and relaxation.

Obama held no public events during his time in San Diego. It was obviously a relaxed visit, as the President showed up in shorts with a couple of other players at Torrey Pines to practice his golf moves.

The White House did not reveal publicly where the president stayed, but it is rumored that he took up a room at the Ranch Santa Fe, arriving on Saturday night after Air Force One landed at the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar earlier that day.

At South Mission Beach, you can enjoy the same luxuries as President Obama. Our townhouses and condominiums provide comfortable rooms that are conveniently located, so that you can get the most out of your vacation. Fill out a contact sheet above to book your stay today!

Study favors bayfront convention center expansion in San Diego

A new study stated that San Diego, California will gain much larger profits if its convention center is expanded on the waterfront instead of on a campus-like site a few blocks away to the northeast on land, findings that have been echoed by backers of this plan. This study – valued at $90,000 – was conducted by advisory and planning firm Conventions, Sports & Leisure International and formally issued last Monday, August 31.

The study, however, did not address issues such as the exact location of the expansion or the possibility of such an expansion happening in the first place.

SeaWorld makes big expansion plans for orca habitat

The California Coastal Commission is gearing up to discuss SeaWorld‘s “Blue World” project in the fall, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune on July 26.

The park’s plan proposes a $100 million dollar renovation to the current habitat housing its orcas that would expand it to 350 feet long, provide depths up to 50 feet, and include a fast-water current for the whales to swim against. In addition to the expansion, SeaWorld has pledged $10 million for research on orcas in the wild.

As it is now, the park has been accredited by two major zoological associations and is inspected at least once a year by federal agencies. SeaWorld officials say the “Blue World” project would be a fantastic improvement to the whales’ current habitat, as it would more accurately address their physical, mental, and behavioral needs. The new habitat would provide park-goers with an excellent view of the orcas without compromising the animals’ happiness.

SeaWorld’s San Diego park is located a short ten minute drive from South Mission Beach, and the route is serviced by a bus that picks up and drops off every fifteen minutes. Experience SeaWorld while staying at our luxury condominiums on the beach. Fill out the contact form on this page to book your stay or learn more today.
