MLK celebration headlines San Diego events

The annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade is a big event in all of the United States, as it pays tribute to the civil rights movement leader. In San Diego, it happened on Saturday, January 14 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. along 585 Harbor Lane.

Later, around 8 p.m. on the same day, jazz enthusiasts had the chance to attend “Birth of the Cool: A West Coast Jazz Salute” at the Jacobs Music Center’s Copley Symphony Hall. The concert featured Gilbert Castellanos and paid homage to the music of pianists Dave Brubeck and George Shearing; baritone saxophonist Gerry Mulligan; saxophonist Paul Desmond; and trumpeters Miles Davis and Chet Baker.
