Comic-Con tickets gone in record sale

The ticket sale for Comic-Con in San Diego, California on Saturday, February 20 excited and disappointed fans alike as tickets for the four-day event sold out in record time. Tickets were already long gone one hour after the sale began, even faster than last year’s record of one hour.

Comic-Con organizers said it is highly unlikely that they will set up another opprotunity for Comic-Con fans to buy tickets.

The yearly pop culture special has long been too populated to be held in the San Diego Convention Center, leaving organizers to make use of large convention hotels, downtown parking lots, and even Petco Park at times.

Over 130,000 attendees, including Hollywood celebrities, directors, and authors, grace the event annually.

If you are planning to attend this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, you might want to rent a condominium or townhouse in Mission Beach, which is a two-mile stretch of white-sand beach. After seeing your favorite pop culture idols during the day, indulge in a night-time swim when you return to your lodgings. The event will start at Pizza Port Ocean Beach at 1:00 p.m. and make its way around town, stopping at a number of favorite local spots.

Creators of the event say a full Santa suit is required, meaning that participants who show up with minimal Santa attire will not get to join in. The event is free for all of those 21 and older, but those who come are encouraged to bring new toys and non-perishable food items to donate.

San Diego Police Department Hosts Annual “Shop with a Cop” Event

The San Diego Police Department recently hosted their annual “Shop with a Cop” event in which over 300 deserving kids are given a chance to go on a shopping spree at Target as well as four tickets to SeaWorld San Diego. The event began at 7:15 in the morning at the park where children and participating police officers were treated to a private showing of the water park’s “Pets Rule Christmas.”

The children were chosen based on referrals from their schools. The officers believe the interactions promote positive relationships between children and the police department that will hopefully grow with the children. Officers worked all year to raise $52,000 from various fundraisers in order to sponsor the event that was put on by more than 30 different law enforcement departments across San Diego.

Cars and bikes of all makes, models, shapes, and sizes met for a two-day racing event sponsored by the Southern California Timing Association as a way to close its 2015 season on Saturday and Sunday, November 14 and 15. The Land Speed Racing event spanned across two racetracks outside Adelanto.

Some vehicles are company-sponsored and carry some advertisements on their liveries, such as those sponsored by car and racing game company Hot Wheels.

Military veterans receive commendations in San Diego

Military veterans here in the United States received accolades at events around San Diego County in California earlier this month on Wednesday, November 11, which included parades and a ceremony on top of the Mount Soledad National Veterans Memorial.

One of the honored guests was retired Marine Colonel Jay Vargas, who is a Medal of Honor recipient.

Major Vargas had proven his “conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity” during a firefight in Vietnam in 1968 that lasted for three days, resulting in him sustaining several injuries, according to the Congressional Medal of Honor Society.

Vargas was called a hero by former San Diego Mayor, ex-California governor, and a former U.S. senator who served in the Marine Corps, Pete Wilson. Other San Diego officials also showered Vargas with accolades such as San Diego police Chief Shelley Zimmerman, retiring fire department Chief Javier Mainar, and incoming fire Chief Brian Fennesy.

Obama’s agenda includes down time in San Diego

United States President Barrack Obama visited San Diego, California on October 10 and 11 to indulge in a few of the relaxing activities that most visitors enjoy in the area: playing golf and engaging in some quality rest and relaxation.

Obama held no public events during his time in San Diego. It was obviously a relaxed visit, as the President showed up in shorts with a couple of other players at Torrey Pines to practice his golf moves.

The White House did not reveal publicly where the president stayed, but it is rumored that he took up a room at the Ranch Santa Fe, arriving on Saturday night after Air Force One landed at the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar earlier that day.
