Spring and Summer events this year at the San Diego Convention Center

Every year, the San Diego Convention Center schedules a list of trade shows and events, in part due to its scenic location near the harbor, and in part due to its massive and sprawling structure. Listed below are some of the events that both locals and tourists can be a part of this summer and spring of 2014.

For students and parents who are scouting for their ideal university, the San Diego National College Fair will take place on April 23, attended by representatives from both public and private colleges, where they are given the opportunity to speak with interested parties and to advertise their school.

On May 30 and 31, a health and fitness expo will be occurring under the banner of the San Diego Rick ‘n Roll Marathon.

A dance competition will take place at the Showbiz National Talent Event at the Convention Center from June 30 to July 4. This is typically a great event to take children to when wanting to introduce them to the world of dancing.

San Diego Convention Center expected to bring in over $1 billion in 2014

The 760,000-square-foot San Diego Convention Center, which first opened in 1989, and whose construction cost $165 million, has slated 111 events so far for 2014, which is expected to generate $1.4 billion and $20.6 million in tax revenues for San Diego, California, a report released on Monday, December 30 showed.

The shows are expected to account for 690,000 room nights at area hotels from 858,000 attendees, according to predictions by the San Diego Convention Center Corp.

Among the major meetings include those for the National Collegiate Athletic Association, which starts on January 15. Meanwhile, February 11-13 will showcase the first largely-attended trade show of the year in San Diego, the West 2014 maritime event, which is expected to bring in around 12,000 guests.

More events with shorter-term bookings will be added throughout the year to the convention center’s 2014 calendar.
